It is not too late to book a place to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the existence of a Centre for Statistical in the UK. Neville Davies, current director of the RSS Centre at Nottingham Trent University, invites you to attend a special event to celebrate the anniversary: · Richard Scheaffer, former president of the American Statistical Association, will be visiting and working at the RSS Centre at NTU in the week beginning 20 October; · on Friday, 24 October, at 3pm Richard will lead a workshop reflecting on the state of statistical education in the UK and elsewhere in the world; · during the evening of 24 October a celebratory dinner will be held at the Royal Hotel in Nottingham. The title of Richard Scheaffer's workshop will be: Statistics Education: Fad, Fancy or Foundation (Fad - a practice followed for a short time with exaggerated zeal; Fancy - a liking by caprice rather than reason; Foundation - a basic tenet or principle on which something else rests) All interested colleagues are invited to visit the Centre during that week, attend the discussion meeting and/or join us for dinner in the evening. For those who require it, overnight accommodation can be arranged at hotels very close to Nottingham City Centre.
