Dear Colleagues, This is an announcement of a POSTDOCTORAL RA POSITION ( 3 YEAR, FULL TIME) (EPSRC funded) based at the Management School, Edinburgh University. The RA will work alongside Professor Kevin Glazebrook and Dr Phil Ansell (School of Mathematics and Statistics, Newcastle University) on a project whose main aim is to advance understanding of a class of stochastic decision models (restless bandits) which play an important role in a wide range of application areas within Operational Research. These areas include queueing control, inventory management and machine maintenance. The work will also have an applied focus and a strong computational component. The RA will have completed (or be close to having done so) a PhD in Mathematics, Operational Research or Statistics or another discipline with a substantial mathematical component. Good programming skills are desirable. The appointment will be from March 1 2004 (or as soon as possible thereafter).
