the journey home was even worse - I picked up a cold from my daughter, we turned off the M25 onto M40 feeling pretty good because the speed limit had been reduced to 40 and was obviously static just after our exit - then got a notice to say M40 closed between 8 and 9 and found a queue of traffic starting to form at junction 3 - so we came off there and wound our way through picturesque villages until we reached the M1 - apparently there had been horses running loose and then someone got out their car to inspect some damage or something and got hit and killed by a passing vehicle which didn't stop.
(We got stuck behind a queue the day before while the fire engines squeezed through to put out a fire at the front end of a refuse lorry - guess ACB Jonah might be a better title!)
Anyway, old age and a lingering cold are getting the blame in more or less equal measure!
