Hello, A design stream was included for the first time at the recent 9th ANZSYS (Australian and New Zealand Systems) conference organized by Monash University at the Sheraton Hotel in Melbourne over the 18-20 November. The success of the Design stream suggests it is likely to be a standard feature of the conference in future. A particularly fine presentation on the design side was that of Johann van der Merwe - undertaken without visual aids. A review of the papers presented at the conference showed, unexpectedly, that almost all were design related or of interest to those using systems approaches in design and design research. Some examples are listed below. Further details of the conference are found at http://www.monash.edu.au/oce/anzsys2003/index.html Best regards, Terry ======= Dr. Terence Love Dept of Design Faculty of BEAD Curtin University +61 (0)8 9266 4018 [log in to unmask] ======= Some papers from 9th ANZSYS conference: The Use of SSM as a Tool for Creativity John Molineux The paradox of quality and the design of quality management systems in higher education Trudi Cooper Universal principles governing architecture in the mechanical, biological & social realms Merrelyn Emery The Use of Design in the New Zealand Furniture Industry David Rees Modelling Website infrastructure using B-Node theory Gurpreet Kohli Emergence: The Achilles Heal of Systems Thinking Bill Hutchinson Organizational Change through Human- Centered Product Development Sabine Junginger A feedback model of knowledge-creation using conversation-based learning Rod Sarah Elements of a Framework for Engineering of Complex Systems Stephen Cook A Systems Approach to the Design Architecture of an Unmanned Helicopter Ankush Rathore System Boundary Issues for Informed Consent in Action Research-A Birdseye View Kay Fielden System Dynamics Modelling HR Planning & Maintenance of Corporate Knowledge Keith Linard A Fork in the Road: Systems and Design Terry Love Using Systems Modelling to Understand the Dynamics of Supply Chains.
