medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Today (24. December) is the feast day of:

Adam and Eve

Delphinus of Bordeaux (d. 404) Delphinus was the bishop of Bordeaux in
Aquitaine. He was a friend of Ambrose and instrumental in converting
Paulinus of Nola (who regarded D. as comparable in significance to Martin
in Gaul). D. was especially active in combatting the Priscillian heresy.

Mochua (d. c. 657) One of more than fifty Irish saints named Mochua (or I
suppose that's a nickname? My Something-or-other?). Mochua was a native
of the Achonry district of Connacht, a successful soldier who then became a
monk. He was the founder of Timahoe (Co. Laois) and other houses. Some
monasteries in Scotland also claimed him as founder.

Adela of Pfalzel (d. c. 730) A daughter of the Frankish king Dagobert II,
Adela became a nun after her husband died. She founded the convent of
Pfalzel near Trier and served as first abbess. She was a supporter of
Boniface.

Irma of Oehren (d. 708) Perhaps another daughter of Dagobert II. Irma
married a count, who died on their wedding day. As consolation, her father
built her the convent of Oehren, near Trier. Irma was an active supporter
of missionary work, both Celtic and Anglo-Saxon.
