<<...>> IRSS Call for Expressions of Interest METHODOLOGICAL REVIEW OF THE ISSUES INVOLVED IN RESEARCH WITH REFUGEES AND ASYLUM SEEKERS: ACCESS AND SAMPLING The Immigration Research and Statistics Service (IRSS) is a research unit within the Research Development and Statistics Directorate (RDS) of the Home Office. IRSS undertakes and commissions research to inform the development of asylum and immigration policy in the UK. Current and past work includes for example, research on the information networks and decision-making of asylum seekers, access to early legal advice in the asylum determination system, and the integration of refugees. Some of this work is undertaken internally but the majority is contracted externally through a competitive tendering process. We are currently inviting expressions of interest for a methodological review. This project aims to undertake a review of the methodological issues involved in undertaking research with refugees and asylum seekers. As this is potentially a very large area, the review will be restricted to issues of i) establishing access to asylum seeker and refugee populations'; and ii) constructing samples from asylum seeker and refugee populations for research purposes. 'Samples' here does not just refer to quantitative research, but also to stratified samples of interviewees for qualitative work. Please reply to [log in to unmask] if you would like to receive a tender pack for this research project. When responding please supply a short summary of the relevant experience of the proposed individual or team who would undertake the review. This should include details of recent research projects, research areas and publications in order to demonstrate methodological expertise and relevant subject knowledge. The summary should be no more than two pages in length. This will be used to help IRSS select a shortlist of organisations to whom an invitation to tender (ITT) will be sent. Please note the work is due to start in February 2003. Please respond by e-mail. Only the above information is required. No proposals are required at this stage. Expressions of interest should be returned by noon on Wednesday 8th January 2003. The invitations to tender will be sent to shortlisted organisations on the 10th January 2003. Completed tenders are to be returned by 7th February 2003. Data collection is expected to start in February 2003. The duration of the project is expected to be six months.
