Evolutionary Psychology claims to highlight supposed
biologically-based differences between male and females, yet has
problems explaining their many similarities. Although old, outdated
and largely discredited within academia, evolutionary psychology
persists because it provides a jusification for structures of
inequality within society. In other words, it rationalizes the status
quo. Reality, unfortunately, does not fit the dimorphic description of
society advanced by its proponents. The recent surge in enrolment
of women in the science, engineering, and math departments of
universities discredits the notion that gender inequality is
biologically determined.
