While I sympathise with your opinions there is a
problem with this. Without a clearly defined area of
expertise we lay ourselves open to a charge of
dabbling, and dabbling is considered dangerous these
days. This is not helped by some of the idiot
pronouncements by colleagues in other specialties. The
"All hand injuries must be seen by a hand surgeon",
type of thing. Really! And how big are your clinics?
Now there may come a day when appointments are for A&E
consultant with special interest in ???, but I can't
see this happening until we at least have enough to go
round.
