The conference aims at exploring relationships between the English language,
English-speaking cultures, and diverse mappings of space, symbolic terrains
and meaningful divisions in a globalizing world, borders and borderlands,
lines of communication and their failure, moments of silence and pregnant
pauses. Possible topics include: constructing imaginative
geographies/histories, space and place, gender and space, gaps and/in
canons, silence and creativity, globalization and cultural divisions,
globalization and the English language, the Divided Kingdom?, literature and
markets.
