CALL FOR PAPERS The 5th Biennial Conference of the Association for Low Countries Studies in Great Britain and Ireland (ALCS) will be held at the Department of Germanic Studies, University of Sheffield, from Thursday, 8 January, to Saturday, 10 January, 2004. The focus of the conference will be the Low Countries - History, Society, Literature and Language - since the Second World War. Proposals for papers are invited. The papers, which can be in English or Dutch, will be about 35 minutes long. The opportunity for publication in a future issue of the journal Dutch Crossing is anticipated. Deadline for proposals: April 1st 2003. Papers on any topic in the area suggested are very welcome. Of particular interest would be proposals on: Dutch/Belgian colonialism; migrant literature in Dutch; the Low Countries in and after World War Two (literature and history); the Netherlands/Belgium in the 1960s (literature and history); youth culture and experience in the Low Countries; developments in the Dutch language since 1945; recent developments in Dutch language-teaching pedagogy.
