MAXqda does want you want. A mouse click in the coding manager allows you to choose "subcodes included". Choosing this option means that the code with all his subcodes is treated as a unit in all search procedures. If you don't choose this option every code and subcode is treated independently. To take a closer look at the program, download the demo version from www.maxqda.com (English version), or the German version on www.maxqda.de. November 2002 10:03 An: [log in to unmask] Betreff: hierarchical coding I am looking for a qualitative analysis software that offers the possibility to (1) organize the nodes hierarchically and (2) treat the coded passages in a hierarchical manner i.e. the passages coded by nodes on the lower level are automatically coded by the node on the superior level as well. Nvivo which I have used so far contains feature (1) but doesn't offer feature (2): In this program each node is regarded as independent. The hierarchical order is a mere organizational feature for the nodes. Is there some other software package, that contains a real hierarchical treating of the coded passages? -- Christian Vogel Soziologisches Institut Rämistr. 69 8001 Zürich ++41 1 634 21 76
