Hi, A few weks back, I mentioned that I had purchased a Dragon Naturally Mobile Digital recorder and that I would test it and send an update to some list. However, I can't remember which list! Anyway, here is what I have discovered. The attractive packaging that shows a professional woman dictating into the recorder is somewhat misleading if you infer that direct automatic transcription from the recording to a text file is going to be possible. When using the recorder's built in mike, the background noise is so excessive that transcription accuracy is unacceptable low. However, there is good news. The recorder comes with a headset mike identical to the one that comes with Dragon Naturally Speaking. When I plugged the mike into the recorder and trained the software that way, it works reasonable well, almost as well as dictating directly into the computer/software. So, I have two different "users" One is me directly speaking into the computer, the other is me on the digital recorder. This is still handy, because I can walk around the house, sit in the backyard, or drive around in my car and still make notes that automatically transcribe with rfair accuracy. However, I haven't had much success with using the correction features of the software with the digital recorder so that transcription accuracy improves. By coincidence, the 8 mb memory card that came with my spouse's digital camera fits in the digital recorder (we had replaced the card with a much larger one), giving me a total recording time of around two hours.
