The European Perinatal Epidemiology Network now has its own jiscmail email list, perinatal-epidemiology. It was set up to enable people in Europe, however defined, and people who want to work with people in Europe on research related to the evaluation of perinatal care, the health of mothers and babies, the socio- economic context of childbearing and usrs views of the care they receive. In particular, with announcements about EU framework 6 funding about to be announced, the list should provide members a facility to discuss sepecific projects and also the potential fro putting the network itself on a firmer footing. The birthstat list has been used by the network, but was orginally established to discuss problem with routinely collected maternity data in the UK. At a time when there has been both progress and setbacks, I suggest that we make greater use of it for this pupose within the UK, while welcoming viewpoints from elsewhere.
