Apologies for cross posting CALIM/NoWAL (Consortium of Academic Libraries in Manchester/North West Academic Libraries) is pleased to announce a new addition to the GMOCN (Greater Manchester Open College Network) accredited CLIP (Certificate of Library & Information Practice) programme. The Supporting Disability in the Workplace unit is aimed at staff who wish to increase their understanding of some of the issues surrounding disability and how best to support people with a disability, be they colleagues or users, in an information environment. At the end of the unit participants will: Understand what is meant by disability. Understand the impact of the working environment and how the behaviour of individuals affects the lives of people with disabilities. Understand the implications of current legislation on working practices and on service providers. Understand how disabled colleagues and users can be supported and included at work. Topics covered will include: The different definitions of disability and models of disability How people with disabilities may be excluded in the working environment and working practices and services. The impact of individual attitudes, perceptions and behaviour. The impact of the current legislation on disability and how it impacts in the workplace. Supporting disabled people in the workplace. There are currently places available on the above course. The cost of the course is £300. This covers 2 full days of training (1 full day and 2 half days) as well as registration with the GMOCN and the awarding of a certificate. The course will start after Christmas (dates to be announced).
