Apologies for cross posting

The skills of teaching and learning are crucial to the role of many staff
working within libraries. CALIM/NoWAL (Consortium of Academic Libraries
in Manchester/North West Academic Libraries) is pleased to announce a
training course covering these skills. The Teaching & Learning Skills
course is a new addition to the GMOCN (Greater Manchester Open College
Network) accredited CLIP (Certificate of Library & Information Practice)
programme.

The Teaching & Learning Skills unit is aimed at staff working within a
Library/Information/IT service who are involved in the delivery of any
form of training such as inductions, information skills sessions, IT
training and the training other staff. The unit is designed to give
participants the maximum opportunity to develop their existing delivery
and presentation skills and to apply those skills in a variety of
different contexts. This unit is ideally suited to staff who wish to
develop a more professional and competent dimension to their training –
and boost their self-confidence!

At the end of the unit participants will:
Understand the factors that influence the way people learn.

Know how to plan a teaching session.
Appreciate the importance of communication skills in teaching.
Understand some techniques for managing the learning environment.
Recognise how individual needs can be addressed.

There are currently places available on the above course. The cost of the
course is £450. This covers 6 full days of training as well as
