Apologies for cross-postings If you want to obtain a solid foundation to the understanding of statistics as a general approach to the problem of making valid inferences about relationships using data from observational or experimental studies, then you need a course on STATISTICAL INFERENCE. Examples of analyses from the social sciences will be used to illustrate this approach. The emphasis will be on the principle of Maximum Likelihood as a unifying theory for the development of statistical analysis. The Centre for Applied Statistics at Lancaster University is running a course on STATISTICAL INFERENCE starting on the 22nd October 2002. For more information about this course and other courses, and a registration form, see: http://www.cas.lancs.ac.uk/short_courses/ If you experience difficulties with this site, an alternative page is now available at: http://www.cas.lancs.ac.uk/short_courses/index_nojava.html If you require further assistance, please contact Mary Peckham, Centre for Applied Statistics, Fylde College, Lancaster University, Lancaster, LA1 4YF, U.K. Tel: +44 (0)1524 593064.
