                        Dear italian-studies colleagues,

I am forwarding the following information to the list on behalf of Linda Parker, Director of the Association for Language Learning.

> Dear Colleagues,
>
> The Association for Language Learning now offers group membership. Under this scheme all staff in an institution can become members of the Association for an annual fee of £95.
>
> In recent years the number of ALL members in HE has declined but we would now like to reverse the trend and welcome HE colleagues back into the Association.
>
> This is a difficult time for many of us in languages education and more than ever we need to talk to other sectors and work with them to promote languages in schools and colleges and encourage uptake beyond 14. ALL offers good opportunities for cross-sector collaboration and networking. Our annual conference, Language World, brings together language professionals from across the UK to discuss issues of common concern. In the regional branches members meet for training and information sessions, we organise events for schools and there are regular social events. If you are looking to promote your department in your region, then working with other ALL members may be useful. Through the Association's website you will be able to keep up-to-date with what's happening nationally in the world of languages education, find out about events which may be of particular interest to you and contact other members. You may also wish to advertise your courses in the Association's journals - we have around 4,000 members many of whom work in the secondary sector.
>
> The benefits of group membership are:
>
> * All staff in your department become ALL group members
> * You receive two journals of your choice each year plus our quarterly newsletter
> * Your staff are entitled to reductions to ALL events, including Language World
> * Individual members of staff are able to upgrade their group membership status to full membership (with voting rights, greater discounts on events and their own choice of journals) for an additional £20 per year.
>
> If you'd like to find out more about the Association, please visit our website at http://www.all-languages.org.uk. If you have ideas on how ALL can work with colleagues in higher education and the kinds of services you would like us to offer, please contact me direct at the email address below.

> Yours sincerely,
