strategic information services: planning for tomorrow's scenarios
speaker: Angela Abell
This one day workshop, based on scenario planning approaches, will help delegates to think strategically about the organisations in which they work, the role of information within those organisations and the services that will be appropriate for the changing needs of the organisations and its stakeholders.  Examples and case studies from state-of-the-art information services will be shared throughout the day but, crucially, participants will build on the experience of the group to help develop their ideas for building or re-designing their own service.

maximising web presence
speaker: Phil Bradley
This one day course is for information managers who are responsible for the production and maintenance of web pages - either for the external website or the intranet, although the emphasis is on the external site. It is specifically designed for managers who wish to increase the visibility of their site on the World Wide Web. At the end of the day delegates should have a clear understanding of managing both website design and content to obtain a better ranking with search engines and improved design for users.

KM without a budget:  knowledge management in a downturn speakers include: Angela Abell, Waltraut Ritter, Melanie Goody, Liz Thompson In the current economic climate, the key question for all managers is - how much will it cost?  For knowledge managers, a more specific question is - how can we gain the benefits from changing work practices and processes without large investment capital?   Is it worth even thinking about the KM

approach when we are strapped for cash? This one day workshop uses the KMAP (Knowledge Management Activity Planning) tool to create and plan projects that are appropriate to your organization.  It also demonstrates, with case studies, how some organizations have developed or maintained KM activities despite budgetary constraints.

planning an intranet taxonomy
speaker: Stella Dextre Clarke
Not all taxonomies live up to the hype that heralds them.  This one day workshop offers the chance to look behind the scenes at how they work, and compare notes with others who have faced challenges and opportunities similar to your own.  A range of options will be demonstrated, rather than relying on any one software or methodology. Key issues of structure, presentation and ways of satisfying diverse user needs will be covered; also the need for planning the taxonomy to fit the whole cultural and technical context.  A variety of approaches and options will be explored, probing their strengths and weaknesses.
