(pro rata) The University Language Centre is looking for a part-time German tutor to teach a variety of German language courses for between ten and twelve hours per week in term-time starting on 1 October 2002 or as soon as possible thereafter. Courses will include reading and speaking classes within the Languages for Study and Research Programme (LASR), general language classes within the new certificate-bearing early-evening programme (OPAL), and classes for scientists and engineers. Applicants should be native or near- native speakers of German, educated to degree level and already have experience of teaching German as a foreign language in a higher education context at a wide variety of levels from beginner to advanced. A qualification in teaching German as a foreign language or an equivalent qualification is highly desirable, as is computer literacy and familiarity with computer-based German language resources. Experience of testing and examining will be an advantage as will experience in materials writing and teaching German for specific purposes. Flexibility in teaching hours will be expected as Language Centre courses are held between 09.00 and 20.00. The post will be paid at 50% of the full salary on the first point of the scale.
