**Apologies for cross-posting** Longitude II – research and development project Resource: the Council for Museums, Archives and Libraries provides strategic guidance, advice and advocacy across the whole of government on museum, archive and library matters. It has an annual budget of around £23 million and an ambitious agenda which aims to substantially enhance the profile of the domains within our remit. As the People’s Network rolls out, there will be a need to understand users’ needs in order to deliver and develop relevant learning-related digital content and to demonstrate the sustainability and effectiveness of the network. Resource and public library authorities need to be able to provide authoritative and consistent evidence of the way in which the sustained use over time of ICT in the cultural sector affects people's lives. Reliable longitudinal tools need to be developed, based on sound research and pilot testing, which will complement current quantitative and other “snapshot-in-time” data. To address this need, in 2000-2001 Resource funded LASER to work on the Longitude project to develop a toolkit of longitudinal qualitative survey methodologies. Resource now wishes to commission further development of the Longitude toolkit so that it can be adopted by public libraries to assess the impact over time of their electronic services, and be used by Resource and other stakeholders to demonstrate long-term impact of NOF funding for the People's Network; Copies of the full tender documents can be obtained from the Resource website at: http://www.resource.gov.uk/information/tenders/5070brief.asp -- or by emailing [log in to unmask] (please quote Longitude - tender number 5070 in the subject line). Closing date for receipt of bids is 9th August 2002.
