Countrysides of the Future

Papers are invited for a 'Countrysides of the Future' session to be held at
the 2003 AAG conference in New Orleans (March 4-8, 2003).  This session aims
to explore the trends, visions and challenges that currently frame
discussions about the future of rural areas.  The convenors welcome papers
that consider how the culture, society and economy of rural areas are
currently being imagined and projected within different discursive realms:
from popular discourses of film, television and literature through to public
policy discourses on sustainable rural landscapes, as well as within radical
/ oppositional movements.  Papers are also welcome that consider the status
of historical projections / visions of contemporary countrysides, as well as
the development of methods for talking about rural futures, such as scenario
building, futurology and deliberation.

Please send a paper abstract of no more than 350 words, including title, no
later than 31st July 2002 to:
