To anyone wishing to encourage staff to take a professional qualification, especially those in the South West region: Please pass this message on to other colleagues who may be interested and/or display it on your staff development notice board. UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL MSc in INFORMATION AND LIBRARY MANAGEMENT The university still has some places available on its part time (3 years) and new full time (1 year) programmes starting in August 2002. Both programmes result from close collaboration between university and other libraries and information services in the South West and most teaching is undertaken by senior staff from these libraries and services. As a result the programmes and teaching are based very much on current practice but also meet the stringent academic requirements of the University of Bristol. Successful students will be awarded a MSc in Information and Library Management from the University of Bristol. The full-time and part-time MSc courses have both recently been recommended for accreditation (or re-accreditation, for the part-time course) by CILIP: The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. The department was awarded the highest possible marks (24 /24) in the 2001 Quality Assurance inspection. Full time students will spend one day a week during semesters working in local libraries or information centres as part of the MSc programme. Part time students typically already work in an ILS environment, but this year for the first time applications from candidates working in related areas (e.g. broadcasting, publishing, law) will also be welcomed. Part time students will attend classes at Bristol for one day each week during semesters, except for dissertation preparation and writing in year 3.
