EARL/SVG workshop in Bristol
I thought it might be useful to pass on a little info about the
SWAD/ER Workshop just held in Bristol (see
http://www.w3.org/2002/05/er-swade-f2f). There will be a report of
this meeting published pretty soon but just to offer some
orientation:
- the meeting was Chaired by Wendy Chisholm (W3C) and Charles
McCathieNevile (W3C and SWAD-Europe)
- the main topics were EARL, the Evaluation and Report Language and
work being done to ensure that it will work well if the current spec
becomes a W3C recommendation,
and SVG and other apps for annotating images.
- wrt EARL, tool developers have been using it and are now able to
comment on how well it works both for recording levels of
accessibility compliance and for informing applications that want to
do on-the-fly repairs. In particular, the original use cases were
reconsidered and new possibilities identified.
- SVG as an annotation language was demonstrated with the focus on
being able to take sub-elements of images and provide descriptions for
them as metadata (in RDF). Queries were run on the metadata.
There are references pointed to from the meeting page if anyone
is interested in finding out more.
