Thank you to everyone who responded to my recent question about graphic
novel collections for young adults. A collection of the responses is
below. I am still looking into contacting someone who could run a workshop
for teenagers in making graphic novels, but the responses below have given
us some interesting suggestions for staff training in this area.

Response to question about developing graphic novel collections for young
adult audiences

Your email spurred me to look further as I knew little about graphic novels.
I note there is a US site "Recommended Graphic novels for public libraries"
selected and annotated by Steve Raiteri at
http://my.voyager.net/~sraiteri/graphicnovels.htm
I also note there are already ebook graphic novels available available -some
freebies but graphics will probably cause download problems. I'd be
interested in any responses you get to your email - Im get more involved in
children/teens literature and reader development and am still involved with
the Birmingham Stories from the web project at www.storiesfromtheweb.org

Try the Reading Partnership (was Well Worth Reading) now part of the
Reading Agency. Miranda McKerney they offer training workshops in
connection with their excellent "Boox" series and "Graphix" collection.

Mel Gibson has delivered such training to our staff on several occasions.
She is extremely knowledgeable and immensely enthusiastic about this
format.
She is currently a lecturer at Sunderland University.
There are more details available on the following site;

And one from the person most people recommended herself:

I run workshops on developing/promoting graphic novel collections. I've
been doing this work since 1993 when I was involved in the YLG publication
Graphic Account. If I can be of any help, please contact me. I'm away
running a training course (on graphic novels) from today until next Monday,
so please excuse any tardiness in getting back to you!

All the best
Mel Gibson
