medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

On Savonarola:

Just a little defense of Alexander VI...what Savonarola said didn't bother
the Pope in the slightest. He only excommunicated Savonarola after
Savonarola excommunicated HIM. By the time he was burned, the citizens in
Florence had had enough of him anyway, and so Alexander allowed him to be
burned.

Also, there is a very funny postcard (which I regret not having bought) in
Ferrara that shows two bikini clad women in front of the Savonarola statute.
It's something about enjoy Ferrara. I laughed out loud when I saw that,
knowing what our good friend Savonarola was like. I tried to explain it to
my mom, tho she didn't quite see the humor. Guess ya just have to know
Savonarola to appreciate it.
