Dyma ddiffiniad ohono o ryw wefan: The term boxwallah is an amalgamation of the English word 'box' and the Hindi/Urdu word 'wala'. Originally the term referred to the peddlar who carried his wares around in a box, such wares being shawls, textiles and jewelry. Gradually during the 19th century, the term came to refer to those merchants of foreign (usually British) nationality who owned and controlled industrial enterprises in the British Empire, in particular, India.
