FOCUS GROUPS: Methods for Success
Design, moderating, and analysis using QSR N5/6 software*
28 April-3 May 2002
SdG Associates is running a 5 day retreat on the focus group method. This
retreat will give a thorough training in the Focus Group method from the
conception and conducting of focus groups through to analysis and the
production of a report. The course will cover:
-awareness of when and how focus groups are effective as a research and
evaluation method
-how to plan and conduct a focus group study, including:
-study design
-recruiting focus group participants
-preparing effective questions
-moderating the focus group
-how to prepare for the analysis including transcription and preparation of
transcripts for the N5/6 software
-how to use the N5/6 software for coding and analysis
-how to structure a focus group report
[No previous knowledge of QSR N5/6 is necessary.]
*experienced NVIVO users are also welcome
Please note that the workshop is also open to experienced NVIVO users who
will be using the NVIVO software. But participants must already be using
NVIVO and know the basics as the basics of NVIVO will not be covered in the
workshop.
The retreat will be held at Llansantffraed Court Hotel near Abergavenny,
Wales. This Georgian style country house stands within its own 19 acres of
parkland and offers a serene setting where participants will be able to
balance intensive training with time for reflection.
The workshop will be run by Dr. Christine Clements Stein and Dr. Silvana di
Gregorio.
