Tinho:

Re your last para and 'up-side-down' world map, recommendation may still (in
a geography department) depend upon projection and centering used, in
addition to current availability. Apart from an example on display in the
BL Map Library's 'Lie of the land' exhibition [see - another 'plug'] we have
here for example :-

Gregory's down under map of the world / Gregory's Publishing Co. - 4th ed. -
Scale 1:45 900 000 equatorial ; Mercator proj. - Macquarie Park NSW ;
Auckland : Gregory, [199-]. - 1 map : col. ; 56 x 86 cm. - (Map 161). -
Centred on Australia. - Oriented S at top. - ISBN 0-7319-0733-7

McArthur's universal corrective map of the world / created by S[tuart]
McArthur. - [Rev. ed.]. - Scale [ca 1:40 000 000]. - Frankston VIC : S.
McArthur, [1990?]. - 1 map : col. ; 55 x 85 cm. - Copyright is stated as
1979 McArthur, but shows 'Commonwealth of Independent States' (created
8.12.1991). - Oriented S at top

The new world map / Ian Brackenbury Channell [&] Derek C. Banks. - Scale [ca
1:75 000 000] ; Wizard's proj. [upside-down:] Mercator. - Christchurch : The
Wizard's Cosmological Research and Development Centre, [1983?]. - 1map :
col. ; 34 x 55 cm. - On both sides: notes. - On verso: ill. - NB: our copy
is 'temporarily mislaid' [!] so we cannot guarantee this record; if anyone
has a duplicate we would welcome it (NB: we don't go looking for up-to-date
editions of such maps, but if anything comes our way we'll retain it).

> Dear friends
> I recently tried to update a display of landranger maps in my department
> (the sheets being trimmed to create a continuous stretch of the
> north-west). I bought some flat landrangers, cut them up, and stuck them
> to a large piece hardboard using a diluted solution of PVA adhesive (50%).
> I made a rotten job of this (lots of bubbles that do not conform to the
> contours) and wondered if anyone had any hints or suggestions for a
> successful job, or knew of a professional company that specialised in
> this,
> ie mounting parts of nine sheets together.
>
> I hope to have mounted a number of single sheet maps for permanent display
> on our stairwell. At present there are a number of framed antique prints
> that give the students the idea that the main use of maps is in the field
> of interior design. I wish to replace these with maps of greater
> educational value. These maps I shall get mounted by a local company who
> have suggested that I use Foamex rather than MDF. Does anyone have any
> experience of Foamex? I'm assured that it is solid unlike foam board.
>
> If anyone would like to see my list of maps that I'm hoping to put up,
> e-mail me personally and I'll send it. Can anyone recommend a good
> 'up-side-down' map of the world, ie with south at the top?
> I look forward to hearing from you.
