LECTURESHIP IN ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY

The School of Geography and Environmental Sciences is seeking to further
strengthen its human geography research activities specifically in the area
of Economic Geography.  The School wishes to appoint a lecturer with
research interests related to aspects local/regional economic development,
including enterprise and competitiveness, labour markets, governance and
regulation. A UK/European focus would be beneficial. The position is
associated with the work of Professor Mike Taylor who took up the Chair in
Human Geography within the School in August 2001.

Demonstration of high quality research potential is essential. There will be
the opportunity to develop teaching portfolios related to personal research
interests, contributing to the broad range of BA and BSc degrees in
Geography.

The School has a national and international reputation for research
excellence and has grown considerably in recent years, currently with 48
academic and related staff including 7 professors, 51 research students and
an annual research income of approximately stlg1.5 million. The School has a
strong group of economic geographers working on developed market economies
and emerging regions. The School encourages interdisciplinary research
activity. Within the University a strong culture of across-School
collaboration and research exists.

The appointment will be within the range  stlg18, 731- stlg30, 967 (Lecturer A/B)
and will be a permanent contract to commence August 2002. The closing date
