medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

Dear colleagues (with apologies to those to whom I have already
addressed this question personally!)

I am editing a translation of the Glossa Ordinaria on the Song of
Songs (for TEAMS), and am having problems with the last of the
notes. A gloss on Song of Songs 7:8 says "I shall be raised on the
cross, of which part was palm"; the author of this gloss is Anselm
of Laon, who is also the compiler of the GO on Song of Songs, ca
1110.

I have consulted the medieval-religion archive on woods of the
cross, and therefore know that Jacob's Well and Bonaventure name
palm as one of the woods, but I cannot find a pre-1110 reference. I
presume the tradition of palm as one of the woods derives from Song
of Songs 7:8 itself, but none of the commentaries on S of S I have
consulted refers to palm as one of the woods of the cross.

An appropriate query for Lententide, I suppose.
