We are pleased to announce the 5th International Summer University at Freie
Universitaet Berlin (Germany), which will take place from July 20th through
August 16th 2002.

THE PROGRAM
FUBiS is an intensive four week summer program offering seventeen
fully-credited courses covering topics on Berlin, Germany, and Europe. The
disciplines represented in the course offerings are drawn from the fields of
Contemporary History, Political Science, German Studies, Film Studies, Urban
Studies, Modern Languages, Art History and German as a Foreign Language.
Except for the language courses and the course on German literature the
language of instruction of all other course is ENGLISH.

All courses include excursions within the Berlin area either as part of the
presentations or as an additional offer. In concluding colloquia ,students
will discuss the themes of the courses in an interdisciplinary setting.

CREDITS
Participant will receive for the completion of each course an official
transcript granting 4 credits, which can be transferred to his/her home
university.


ELIGIABILITY
Admission requirements are two years of college / university education.


COSTS
The tuition fee for each course is EUR 613,55, except for the 'Preventive
Medicine Intensive Course' which is EUR 1200.-. There is an additional
onetime registration fee of EUR 76,69.

HOUSING
FUBiS offers its students housing options in single-occupancy apartments.
The rent for the duration of the Summer University varies according the
equippment of the apartment between EUR 360,-- and 440,--. Furthermore we
will offer also a limited number of homestay opportunities with German host

APPICATION
The application deadline is May 15, 2002. Later registrants cannot be
guaranteed a place given the limits on course participation. A online
