As a "clinical fellow" who has recently completed an
APLS course I feel obliged to respond! Yes I am a "pre-number" (pre-SPR) middle
grade doctor! APLS was by far the most challenging and useful course I have been
on ( I recommend the ipswich course). Why? We see a lot less sick children than
adults; there are lots of formulae to remember; we get to meet and interact with
paeds and anathethetic shos and regs who have a different perspective! Yes
it may help to get a job and tick boxes but thats the way of the world! Yes
my boss probably could have taught me all of it but sometimes some
protected study in a conducive environment can really help to focus
the mind and help us get the most out of "on the job" teaching and experience.
Courses like this also give us credability with collegues and keep us up to
date. These courses give us confidence!
By the way I got my course at short notice ( to develop my
skills) by emailing course coordinators on www.doctors.net.uk and saying I would be
happy to take up a short notice place. Sorry if I have gone on a bit but I
strongly believe in continuing education and this is a REALLY useful
course.
