stock rotation

I have been asked to share the responses to my query about stock rotation with the list.
Several respondents mentioned the Talis 11, Dynix, and Galaxy 2000 all of which are integrated library system packages with modules for stock rotation. I was also referred to George Kerr's work at West Lothian and Mr Kerr himself replied to me directing me to his paper entitled "Evidence based stock management: the testing of a new tool for librarians" which is on the website of the Bertelsmann Stiftung. The paper describes the rationale and gives some examples of the implementation of stock rotation. One person referred me to the ongoing controversy about date-stamping which does have some bearing on the topic. Somebody else drew my attention to the practices of my own authority Essex, which I knew about but I did not know they were so highly regarded - familiarity breeds contempt. The response was very useful to me and I am grateful to all those who replied.
