We are currently working on a PFI bid to get a new community library linked to a school. The architects are asking us for a formula to work out the space requirement based on the population the library will serve, the amount of shelving required to store the appropriate number of books (again based on the population figures). Does anyone on the list either know whether such formulas exist or have undertaken a similar exercise and able to point us in the right direction. I would be grateful if people could reply off-list and I will summarise. Thanks, Lesley Lesley King, Libraries and Information Services Manager.
