Outreach activities on the implementation of the Disability Discrimination
Act (1995) (related to the UK only)

Ms. Kingham wrote recently that:
"I work for a housing association that provides services to people with
learning disabilities and mental ill health. We are looking for a trainer to
provide anti-discriminatory training to 140 staff members. Does anyone
know of any good trainers in antidiscriminatory practice?"

A research project at City University in London has looked into the public
policy issues emerging from the implementation of the Disability
Discrimination Act within the employment, education and service contexts
since 1st October 1998. Although the main research output has been of the
academic nature, it may be possible to offer a range of outreach activities
aimed towards the disabled people themselselves and their carers and the
related service providers in collaboration with the other players (subject
to resource constraints). The Act has been in force over five years by 2
December 2001. It has been found exteremely 'complex' by many players such
as judges of the Court of Appeal.
