Derek Gregory is Professor of
Geography at the University of British Columbia. He holds a
doctorate from the University of Cambridge and an Honorary Doctorate
from the University of Roskilde. He has an international
reputation for his work on social theory in Geography and has authored
or edited 17 books and more than 63 scholarly articles in Geography.
Derek has presented numerous special lectures and keynote addresses,
including the Alexander von Humboldt Lecture, University of Nijmegen,
Netherlands; the inaugural Hettner Lecture, University of Heidelberg;
the RGS/John Wiley Lecture, Canadian Association of Geographers Annual
Conference; and, the inaugural Progress in Human Geography
lecture, Association of American Geographers Annual Conference.
His current research interests include: Human geography, cultural
studies and social theory; Historical geographies of modernity;
Orientalism and imaginative geographies; Cultures of travel and
formations of modernity.
