Hi Julie,

Depending on the exact date, i wonder if you've got the latter half of the Little Ice Age there?
Temperatures were a couple of degrees colder at its peak, and the River Thames famously froze over on a regular basis. I don't know if there are any records for birds that far back. Try [log in to unmask] (British Trust for Ornithology) who have the most complete bird records for Britain.

Remember, climate change is not a recent invention!

All the best,

Subject: [ZOOARCH] puffins

Hello all,

I have a puffin tarso-metatarsus (and possibly a femur) from a 17th to
18th century cellar fill in central Norwich. Does anyone know of any
other references to puffin in similar contexts and locations?

Although occassionally a puffin will turn up on the north Norfolk coast,
they are not naturally found here.

Any help appreciated....

Julie
