An article giving an update of a survey of search engines used in UK
HEIs is now available at:
http://www.ariadne.ac.uk/issue30/web-watch/

The findings are available at:
http://www.ukoln.ac.uk/web-focus/surveys/uk-he-search-engines/2002-01/

Comparisons have been made with the original survey in Sept 1997.

Note that in order to assist institutions which would like to compare
search engines we have indexed our Exploit Interactive ejournal (which
has been replaced by Cultivate Interactive so the Web site is now
static) with a number of search engines. To use it go to:

http://www.exploit-lib.org/search/multiple.asp

If anyone would like to index www.exploit-lib.org with their own search
engine, in order to increase the range of tools, please get in touch.
Note that one commercial company (ISYS at http://www.isysuk.co.uk/) have
agreed to take part in this comparison and would, I'm sure, welcome
enquiries from anyone who'd like to know more about their product.

As usual, please let me know if the details for your institution are
incorrect.

Thanks

Brian
