The Open University still has some places available on their flexible PGCert in Teaching and Learning in HE programme, beginning on November 2nd. The course lasts till end September 2003 and is ILT and SEDA accredited. Full prospectus details and downloadable booking forms are available at http://iet.open.ac.uk/coursesonline/coursesplash.cfm?course=h850 If there are lecturers and student support staff in your institution who, for whatever reason, are not willing or able to join an institutional accredited programme, this course may provide a solution. Teaching relies on text and web-based materials of a high standard - it's probably worth joining the course just to get access to these resources. The materials have been reprinted for this year and the pack dealing with assessment has been radically updated, providing a whole new view of assessment that is totally up to date and in tune with current issues. Tuition is in small groups via online conferencing. Portfolio assessment is formative and summative, constructed using five assignments and a capstone examinable component. Participants are able to participate at times to suit themselves and will 'meet' a wide range of colleagues from different institutions and professional contexts. If your institution has a group of students who need such a course (and if there are still spaces) a discount may be available for block bookings.
