Enhancing Your Web Pages Further HTML, CSS, Design and Accessibility 09:30 - 16:30 Tuesday 24th September 2002 At Strathclyde University Having mastered the basics of HTML fairly quickly, many web developers will then look for ways in which they can enhance their pages. For example, HTML form tags can be used to create web page interfaces to allow (often complex) user interaction. Cascading Style Sheets can also help developers exercise precise control over the display of page content, whilst providing the opportunity to present the same content in several ways (without maintaining duplicate web pages!). Both methods are explored in this workshop. Accessibilty is rapidly becoming the driving force behind the design considerations for many web sites. This workshop will also investigate some of the fundamental steps required to produce accessible content as well as introducing current guidelines and web standards. This workshop provides a platform from which to make the next step towards more attractive, functional and accessible web content as well as providing a brief overview of some more advanced technologies for web interaction and content management/delivery. This is a practical workshop for users of the World Wide Web who have had some experience of creating basic web pages and want to develop their pages further. Whilst it may be attended as a stand-alone workshop, it also follows on from the Netskills workshop "Web Pages from Scratch". 2. Databases on the Web 09:30 - 16:30 Wednesday 25th September 2002 At Strathclyde University Web authors and database users are becoming increasingly aware of the massive potential for integrating web and database technologies. There are many practical uses such as providing cost-efficient information services or intranets, revitalising legacy database systems, as a means of managing web-based information, and for electronic commerce. Originally one of the first courses of its kind and now updated to include the use of the increasingly popular PHP/MySQL combination, this is a practical workshop for users of the World Wide Web who would like to understand how to publish database-driven content on the web. The workshop gives both an overview of some of the different tools and techniques available and teaches the practical skills necessary to use them. It is suitable for anyone involved in web publishing via either the internet or an intranet. In addition database specialists who are considering web integration will find this workshop useful. Costs The cost of each workshop is 120 pounds for participants from UK higher and further education. Other participants should contact Netskills for the relevant fees. Note: Costs include lunch, morning coffee and afternoon tea. Joining details and further information will be sent to participants prior to the workshop Kind Regards Juliet Schroeder Marketing and Training Coordinator 0191 222 5008 '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' Mike Snell, Library Development Manager Stirling University Library Stirling, Scotland, FK9 4LA Tel: 01786 467225 Fax: 01786 466866 '''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' ''''''''''''''''''''''''''''' -- The University of Stirling is a university established in Scotland by charter at Stirling, FK9 4LA.
