UK Department for Transport just
issued a massive, 244 page document as part a consultation exercise on
vehicle Type-Approval. This is part of a process to harmonise Type
Approval across Europe approval. For commercial vehicle
makers and operators the real significance lies in a plan to introduce
type-approval for truck, van and bus bodywork and for
trailers. Although Type-Approval won't come into force till
2008 and 2010, there will be opportunities for voluntary type-approval
from 2005. There are enormous implications for the CV
industry in these proposals and just one month before the consultation
period closes on 31 October 2002. If you need to, have your
say, quickly.
