The Today programme (BBC R4) yesterday discussed the drop in number offemale Labour candidates at the last election, and blamed selection committees for male bias. The current Pop Idols knock-out competition (ITV) has, however, ended up after phone-in voting with three males from a selection of ten. Does anyone have access to the data on the voting patterns and viewer demographics, and sufficient interest, to determine if the sequence of rejections indicates gender bias? R.
