JOB DESCRIPTION

Education Manager

                                        £30,000 pa



RESPONSIBLE TO:   Director of Science & Exhibits (Interim: Chief Exec)


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
To ensure that the Glasgow Science Centre achieves its educational mission
by developing effective links with schools, universities and community
organisations.

To ensure that the relevance of the exhibits, shows, programming etc. meets
the requirements of current and forthcoming education curricula at all
times.

MAIN DUTIES

§ Develop, design, implement and manage educational programmes to meet
planned objectives 

§ Budget, prepare and plan all Glasgow Science Centre educational programmes

§ Ensure programmes are relevant to the needs of the visitor and educational
establishments

§ Schedule and co-ordinate the educational programmes to ensure maximum
efficiency of resources, materials and staffing.

§ Identify, analyse and meet the needs and requirements of the teachers for
the provision of in-service training and support.

§ To contribute to the input of creative and educational knowledge into the
laboratory, theatre and discovery content and design.

§ Manage and conduct various educational advisory panels to meet the needs
of the educational establishments.

§ Manage and support Youth Board activity

§ Create facilities that encourage and maximise school visits

§ Liase with university organisations to co-ordinate and develop outreach
strategy for the West of Scotland

§ Establish and continually develop effective training programmes for
explainers/presenters

§ Continual development of all Glasgow Science Centre educational activities


§ Ensure compliance with all Health, Safety and Fire Regulations



SKILLS AND PERSONAL QUALITIES

§ Degree qualified (Science/Teaching)

§ Minimum 5 years previous experience of developing, delivering and managing
science based learning activities 

§ Knowledge of and involvement with the Science Education Community,
including Universities, EBP
Professional Institutions etc 

§ Previous involvement in the development of public understanding of
science, including school science, across Scotland

§ Demonstrable skills and experience of managing people

§ Strong interpersonal and influencing skills

§ Exceptional presentation and project management skills
