BA Award Lectures 2003

The deadline for nominations for the BA Award Lectures 2003 is fast
approaching and list members may like to nominate speakers.

Each year the BA honours six outstanding communicators with the opportunity
to present a prestigious award lecture at the BA Festival of Science. This
award scheme aims to encourage the discussion of important developments in
science and engineering with a general audience. The lectures demonstrate
the impact of scientific breakthroughs in the society of today and tomorrow
and identify some 0f the social and ethical implications of such advance.

Nominations are invited for the following award lectures:

Isambard Kingdom Brunel Lecture - Engineering, Technology, Industry
Charles Darwin Lecture - Agricultural, Biological & Medical Sciences
Dorothy Hodgkin Lecture - Science and Society
Lord Kelvin Lecture - Physical Sciences and Mathematics
Joseph Lister Lecture - Social Sciences
Charles Lyell Lecture - Environmental Sciences

Nominees should be professional scientists or engineers, under 40, who show
outstanding skills in communicating to a non-specialist audience.

To nominate individuals with a passion for communicating their work, you can

The deadline for nominations is 22 November, 2002. Winners of these esteemed
awards will be invited to give a lecture during the BA Festival of Science
at the University of Salford 8-12 September 2003.
