Teaching large groups in art, design and communication
21st January 2003
led by Jonathan Baldwin

Increasingly, higher education is taking in larger groups of
students, incorporating a wide variation in terms of ability,
previous learning experiences and expectations. Tried and tested
teaching techniques don't always work under these circumstances -
indeed without some modification they could be counter productive.
But large groups need not be seen as an insurmountable problem.
Tackled with imagination, they can produce a dynamic learning
environment well-suited to providing students with opportunities to
develop teamwork, independence and self-management.

This session looks both at the issues raised by large student groups,
and ways in which they can be overcome, as well as the opportunities
afforded by them.
