Peaceful wishes for the season and apologies for the last multiple postings of 2002 *********************************** January 2003 workshops from cltad Teaching large groups in art, design and communication 21st January 2003 led by Jonathan Baldwin Increasingly, higher education is taking in larger groups of students, incorporating a wide variation in terms of ability, previous learning experiences and expectations. Tried and tested teaching techniques don't always work under these circumstances - indeed without some modification they could be counter productive. But large groups need not be seen as an insurmountable problem. Tackled with imagination, they can produce a dynamic learning environment well-suited to providing students with opportunities to develop teamwork, independence and self-management. This session looks both at the issues raised by large student groups, and ways in which they can be overcome, as well as the opportunities afforded by them. ************************************* Preparing for academic leadership 28th January 2003 led by Allan Davies This workshop will seek to support colleagues in participating effectively as teachers and managers in an HE context which is using transformative devices such as learning and teaching strategies, quality assurance mechanisms and codes of practice to bring about substantial change. ************************************ Courses will be held in London, start time 10 15am, finish time approx 4 00pm, cost 150.00 Bookings http://www.cltad.ac.uk or email [log in to unmask] -- ************************************************ Office closure over the holiday from 20th December - re-opening 6th January 2003 Felix Lam Co-ordinator, The Centre for Learning & Teaching in Art & Design (cltad) c/o 65 Davies Street, London W1K 5DA tel: +44 (0) 207 514 8162 (dd) fax: +44 (0) 207 514 6994 email: [log in to unmask] or [log in to unmask] http://www.cltad.ac.uk
