MEASURING PERFORMANCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR
Mik Wisniewski, Mansci and Audit Scotland
Derek Stewart, Public Sector Advisory service, KPMG

The development of effective performance measurement is seen as
increasingly important by many organisations, public and private sector
alike. However, the challenges of achieving this in the public sector are,
arguably, considerable.
In this seminar, the need for effective public sector performance
measurement at both the strategic and operational levels will be discussed.
Current approaches to performance measurement in the public sector will be
reviewed and the potential contribution of management science to the
performance measurement agenda will be assessed.
