I believe that the clearances between the strips on the flame traps of diesel locomotives, which Mike referred to, were similar to the permitted clearances in flameproof electrical equipment. At the colliery where I worked the clearances on the flame traps were checked by electricians, as they were accistomed to the permitted flameproof clearances. Alan.
