Micaceous haematite was mined around the Bovey Tracey area on the edge of Dartmoor. One mine was Kelly Mine as a previous contributor mentioned, which is being preserved and can be visited by arrangement on open days. One of the early uses of the mineral was for pounce in the Eighteenth Century, when paper and inks were of poor quality and so before writing you sprinkled pounce onto the paper so the ink would take - rather like the drawing films of thirty years ago.
