The International Conference on Environmental Issues and Waste Management in Mineral and Energy Production (SWEMP 2002) will be held in Cagliari (Sardinia, Italy) 7-10 October 2002. The venue is close to the lead-zinc mining districts of Iglesias and Masua, and the gold mining operations of Furtei; all of which are included in the technical itinerary. Conference topics relate largely to the problems of operating and the closure of mineral extraction processes but also includes industrial (mining) archaeology.
