RESEARCH ASSISTANT A Joint Appointment at the Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UCL and the Institute of Psychiatry We are looking for a postgraduate student with a research interest in twentieth-century European psychiatric and/or medical history to conduct editorial work on a report written by the Maudsley psychiatrist Sir Aubrey Lewis in 1937. In that year, Lewis visited psychiatric institutions throughout Europe with the exception of Germany. The three-month appointment, beginning in June 2002, will involve archival research in the UK and on the Continent. The successful candidate will be required to check original manuscripts, investigate individual pre-Second World War psychiatrists and institutions and examine a variety of psychiatric concepts. A knowledge of European languages would be helpful. Salary will be offered in the range £23,637 to £25,507 per annum, pro rata (inclusive of London weighting allowance), dependent on skills and experience.
